Assalamualaikum....
I want to share my thoughts with you guys…
After all we’re like a family…
Here’s the thing, as you guys can read the subject of my email is The English Translation of the Al-quran”
These are the names of the translators that you may recognize:
1. Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali
2. Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan
3. Hafiz Abdullah Yusuf Ali
I personally fancy the translation of Marmaduke (Mohammed) Pickthall more than the other three translators.
This is because, as a future linguist (Pray for me to be one), I see that the proficiency in a particular language is a prominent factor, in this case, the English proficiency.
Marmaduke (Mohammed) Pickthall reverted from Christian and he is a native English speaker. He is also a former novelist. In terms of the flawless of English no denial to it.
I’m not saying that the other three translators are not good in English or something; it’s just that, I just want the best for me. The other three translators are not native English speakers. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan are Arabic people whereas Hafiz Abdullah Yusuf Ali is from India. They are not native speakers.
After I’ve used the translation of Marmaduke Pickthall for some time, I find that it is easier to be understood compared to the other translators. The choosing of words by Marmaduke Pickthall in my eyes is better and more suitable.
In addition, you can purchase the translation by Marmaduke Pickthall at lower prices than the other three at about RM5 around Masjid India at KL. If you just install the software than it’s just free.
All in all, who am I to judge which one is the best? But I can choose which one I want right? The same goes to you, if you’re on the same boat as me then let’s use the translation by Marmaduke Pickthall.
All the best,
Ameen Misran

i prefer Yusuf Ali. i guess i used it ever since i was a kid, and love the translation style.
but all of us have their own preference and are entitled to their own thoughts, anyways..
may Allah bless
Sis Humayra...
Before this I am so into Yusof Ali...
But then my mother introduced me with Marmaduke (Mohammed) Pickthall....
Its ok actually...
The real question is have we read the Quran and implement its teachings in our lives?
ameen, i do have to agree with u, language is a tool to communicate.. but u chose a beautiful tool because its artistic..you not only chose because of its purpose..
the naming of the suraah by Marmaduke captured my attention...great translation
